Donor Buys a Bench

In this situation, a Donor wanted a bench in a sitting area for a hospital or hospice.

The donor gave the amount the bench would cost to the charity.

Does the donor get a charitable receipt?

CRA said No as this was not a gift.

In chatting further with CRA, had the donor purchased the bench and gifted it to the charity, they would be eligible for a GIFT in KIND receipt.
